"Pokémon GO" is, without a doubt, a global phenomenon, but it is not without its shortcomings. The soon to be released "Pokémon Sun and Moon" is on a different league; still, how do they actually compare and are they really comparable?
First things first. "Pokémon GO" is a mobile game that was intended to be played on short bursts. That could be subjective due to the game's reception and crazy popularity. How did this fare from the prior "Pokémon" games?
This also another subjective matter. "Pokémon GO" is a mobile game played on possibly, a wider scale with Android and iOS devices. Prior handheld "Pokémon" games are exclusively on Nintendo consoles like GBA, Nintendo DS and 3DS unless the emulator option will be included, some of the GBA and DS "Pokémon" games can also be played on mobile devices.
Without sounding like a purist, it could be safe to say that the true "Pokémon" experience can be obtained through the actual "Pokémon" game and this is what we expect with "Pokémon Sun and Moon."
"Pokémon GO" does play out really good and it gives every fan a chance to be the actual trainer that they always wanted to be. This is loads of fun by all means, but this may not be for everyone, especially those looking for more layer of gameplay, mechanics, and story.
To cut things short, "Pokémon Sun and Moon" is targeted for audience who have played the prior games, want story, fan of the famous franchise in general, and has a 3DS. This could be a better experience for those who actually want reach some end-goal and is willing to focus more on the game.
It also saves players the trouble of having to go out, especially those who really does not want to go out and just want to catch as much "Pokémon" as they can. "Pokémon GO" is intended to be played that way and resorting to cheating kind of kills the purpose.
"Pokémon GO," simply put, is an AR game with "Pokémon" IP slapped on it. It works and it is really a popular thing right now. Not just with "Pokémon" fans, but also with the larger demographic who can't spare their time staring at their 3DS screens, but has the time walking around the city and hauling "Pokémon" on the GO.
None is exactly better than the other, but these are two different games that are both worth playing. It just depends on how exactly you would like to play "Pokémon" and trust us, neither of them is a let down except when Niantic's server goes haywire from time to time for "Pokémon GO."
