Contrary to speculations last year that Meizu MX Quad-core phone will be arriving in May, the latest buzz is that Meizu MX Quad-core device will arrive in June. The phone will come in 32 and 64GB variants.
In the press release, Meizu said that the MX Quad-core is the first smartphone in the world to use the Cortex-A9-based quad-core Exynos A9 processor. It's the same chip which is expected to power Samsung Galaxy S3. The 32nm HKMG technology means there is up to 20 percent reduced CPU consumption. The phone also has a 1700mAh battery, rising from the 1600mAh.
"With its state-of-the-art hardware, the MEIZU MX Quad-core is better in every way than its predecessor. The MEIZU MX Quad-core GPU is 60 percent ... faster compared to the previous MX. Whether it is browsing through menus, playing the latest games, or watching 1080p video, the MX Quad-core easily beats dual-core services," the press release added.
The MX Quad-core has a 292 ppi - 960x640 - ASV display, shy of the iPhone's 326 ppi Retina display. On the back is an 8-megapixel camera, which can apparently take great photos in low-light conditions. The smartphone is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, with the custom Flyme OS UI. The company previously said they would offer stock Ice Cream Sandwich concurrently, though there is no word if it will.
There's also no word on RAM or other internals, but Chinese website CNMO claimed the phone features 2GB of RAM (and they also said there would be 64GB of memory, which has been confirmed). That's double the RAM of the Quad-core's dual-core brother.
The device will be available in June across the company's 400 retail stores in mainland China and Hong Kong, for ¥2999/3999 CNY and $3099/4099 HKD for 32 and 64GB sizes respectively, though there's no microSD card support. As of April 16, the Meizu MX will have its price lowered to ¥2399 CNY in Japan and $2599 HKD in Hong Kong.
The company announced back covers for the phone, in five colors along with white.
