Microsoft released Windows 10 approximately a year ago on July 29, 2015. Thus, to honor its users, Microsoft is offering free upgrades for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.
Unfortunately, the free upgrade option is scheduled to end on July 29 for users currently using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. After July 29, users will be charged $119 for upgrades to Windows 10. Additionally, if users upgrade their OS within July 29, they would get the Anniversary update, launching on Aug. 2 for free.
The upgrade process is easy enough, however, users can also go ahead and follow Microsoft's guide. Additionally, it is prudent to take a backup of the files, for later reference.
In other news, Microsoft has decide to make it compulsory for Windows users to take Cortana's help. Cortana is Microsoft's digital personal assistant.
Although Cortana has received a variety of upgrades in the Anniversary Update edition, supports multiple languages and has deeper integration with applications and calendars, and can remember random facts about you, yet it cannot be shut off when you feel like, reported Extreme Tech.
This behavior of Microsoft can be linked with its intention of using Cortana directly into Microsoft's "search box.
"With the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the search box is now Cortana," Microsoft told PC World. "Customers can expect the same great search experience powered by Bing and Microsoft Edge with the added benefit of Cortana's personality."
However, you can disable Cortana's ability to collect personal information, or connecting to various applications. In other words, her behavior can still be controlled, including the sharing of classified information moving forward. What isn't controllable is your ability to turn off Cortana and use a standard search bar for your use.
Thus from Windows 10 Anniversary update the Cortana and search bar are same.
