Fans can still enjoy "Kingdom Hearts 3" without going through "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" first, co-director Tai Yasue confirmed in an interview.

The anticipation for "Kingdom Hearts 3," the next title of one of Square Enix's biggest franchise, is still going strong, despite the game being in development for a long time now.

Square Enix will also be launching "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" later this year, and is supposedly a primer to "Kingdom Hearts 3." The game will be exclusive to PS4, which means Xbox One owners unfortunately will be not be able to play the game.

Yasue, however, confirmed that there are no fears about Xbox One owners feeling left out. He said this during an interview with VentureBeat.

"'Kingdom Hearts 3' is very much - it's a game that will be better if you understand all the other stories, Yasue said. "But at the same time, you can enjoy it without following the whole arc."

"As you know, all the Kingdom Hearts stories have a conclusion at the end of each Disney world. You can still enjoy that as well," Yasue continued. "For the whole arc, it might help to understand, but there's still a lot of fun in each Disney world."

Yasue was also asked why "Kingdom Hearts 3" was a no-show at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo despite fans clamoring for it. The co-director said that leaving the title out of the spotlight is a difficult decision for the team.

"We're excited about Kingdom Hearts III, but II.8 we're releasing globally at the beginning of December," Yasue confirmed. "We wanted to concentrate on that first. We want what's best for the moment."

"We're currently making III and 2.8 at the same time, but we wanted to concentrate on 2.8 right now," Yasue added.

"Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue" will be released on Playstation 4 in December.
