The new iPad has turned out to be the most controversial iPad ever released. The last two versions - the original iPad and iPad 2 - offered a satisfactory experience to users. But the third generation iPad has prompted a deluge of complaints regarding different issues with the new tablet. Weak Wi-Fi reception is one of them.
Weak Wi-Fi reception problem has prompted Apple to receive a lot of flak from users. The new iPad began selling in stores from March 16. And on the following day itself, or March 17, a hot debate sparked on Apple discussion forum regarding the weak Wi-Fi reception issue and soon it began to receive a lot of attention from the media too.
"I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop Wi-Fi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?" said the thread starter, who was the first new iPad owner to report the Wi-Fi reception problem to Apple.
And now, finally, after weeks of dithering, Apple has decided to address the problem in its new iPad. According to a confidential Apple document obtained by 9to5Mac, Apple is investigating a series of Wi-Fi related issues like weak Wi-Fi reception, slow internet speeds and the device's inability to detect Wi-Fi networks.
Apple is actively working to resolve the issue. According to folks over at the Cupertino base, Wi-Fi related problems are found in Wi-Fi only models. The Wi-Fi + 4G models of the new iPad are reportedly working fine, give a butter-smooth wireless Internet browsing experience. Apple has acknowledged the issues but is yet to publicly announce its future plans of solving the issue.
This leaked internal document reveals that Apple is going to replace all affected units of the third generation iPad. Apple has instructed AppleCare employees to "capture" the new iPad with all the accessories like AC adaptor and USB cable in the confidential document. "Capture" is a code to pack the device and deliver it to Apple development centers for investigation purposes.
It is expected that Apple will replace all the affected units of the new iPad or refund the disgruntled owners.
