The HTC One X and One S are HTC's high- and middle-tier devices from the One family. Both are solid devices, but which is the right one for you?

Hardware-wise, the One X has a 4.7-inch screen, while the One S's display is 4.3 inches. Both eclipse the display sizes of the iPhone 4S and the Galaxy Nexus, though they aren't the biggest: the Samsung Galaxy Note has a 5.3-inch screen.

Despite the large screens, HTC's design on both phones has been praised for being inventive - moving away from the same unibody design many of their devices have had in the past. "Thanks to wise design decisions, like that thin, concave form shape, the X actually feels perfectly at home in-hand," Engadget said in their comparison.

Storage-wise, the One X has 32GB of internal memory - though the AT&T version comes with 16GB - while the One S comes with 16GB. This is also the maximum storage for both devices, as neither supports expandable storage through microSD. HTC is instead offering 25GB of free Dropbox storage. Generally, dropbox users have to pay $9.99 and $19.99 to get 50GB and 100GB of Dropbox storage respectively.

HTC's designs have also been made to last: the One X has a highly resistant Polycarbonate shell, while the One S has an aluminum body that has gone under micro-arc oxidation. Under the process, the metal is zapped with 10,000 volts of electricity. On the front, both phones used Gorilla Glass, so scratches aren't a worry.

Both the smartphones are also thin and light - with the One X measuring 8.9mm while the One S is 7.8mm. The former weighs 4.59 ounces (130 grams), while the One S measures 4.22 ounces or 120 grams. To put in a perspective, the iPhone 4S weighs 4.9 ounces, or 140 grams, while the Galaxy Nexus is slightly lighter at 4.8 ounces or 135 grams.

NFC is only included in the One X, which supports Google Wallet and Android Beam. The latter allows users to share information such as bookmarks, YouTube videos and directions.

Inside, the One X is the first phone to use the Tegra 3 quad-core chip - also in the Eee Pad Transformer Prime - which has four cores running at 1.5 GHz. The One S is not as powerful, only having two cores, running on a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon 4 cip.

International versions of the devices feature quadband GSM and EDGE, though the One X also support HSPA+ and UMTS. T-Mobile's AWS U.S. service isn't included. "AT&T users ... should look over their coverage with a fine-tooth comb ... if most of your time is spent in the 1900 MHz zone, it won't be wise to go with the One S," as the device doesn't feature it, Engadget noted.
