Samsung has yet to reveal official information about its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3. However, numerous rumors and leaks so far have managed to paint a pretty clear picture of the much-anticipated smartphone. In the highly competitive Android market, the choice for a high-end smartphone ultimately comes down to two titans: the HTC One X or the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3.

Sure, Samsung's flagship phone has not been officially unveiled yet, but chances are the rumored specs are not so far off. Here's a rundown of the specs of the two super phones. We've compared between the known specs of the HTC One X and the rumored specs of the Samsung Galaxy S3 (only plausible rumors and leaks are taken into account). Pick your winner.

Processor & GPU

The global version of the HTC One X will feature the Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC, which, at a CPU level, means a quad-core ARM A9-based processor with a clocking speed of 1.5GHz, with a fifth core designed to help run tasks that do not require full speed. The Tegra 3's GPU is an enhanced version of the Tegra 2's GeForce ULP GPU. Meanwhile, the U.S. version on AT&T will sport the Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC with Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4, which only features a dual-core processor. Its cores, however, are based on the newer and faster ARM Cortex A15, which led the S4 CPU to a better general score in preliminary benchmarks versus the CPU inside the Tegra 3.

When it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S3, various rumors and leaks pointed to different clock speeds, but one thing certain is that the flagship smartphone will use a quad-core ARM A9-based Exynos 4212 chip. Moreover, one leak in particular reported that Samsung's Exynos 4212 will be clocked at a whopping 1.8GHz. Should this turn to be true, the Samsung Galaxy S3 will likely sport the fastest CPU among all current smartphones. There is no mention of the GPU, but Samsung is expected to at least keep pace with the HTC One X.

Display

The HTC One X boasts of a 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD 2 capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 312 pixels per inch (ppi), protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass. While it is impressive, it is also outshined by Samsung's current slate of Super AMOLED HD displays. Each of Samsung's previous flagship phones has featured a display considered the best at the time of launch, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to continue the tradition.

The most recent plausible rumors indicate that Samsung will use a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED HD Plus display, with a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720. Should this rumor turn out to be true, the Samsung Galaxy S3 will feature a regular RGB matrix, rather than the Pentile one.

Storage and RAM

The global version of the HTC One X will offer 32GB of internal storage, the same amount the Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to feature. The HTC One X does not feature an SD card slot for additional storage. However, the HTC-DropBox partnership offers 25GB of free cloud storage, which more than makes up for the inconvenience.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to feature an SD expansion card slot allowing up to 32GB of additional storage. When it comes to RAM, the HTC One X will pack 1GB of RAM, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to have double - 2GB of RAM.

OS, Cameras & Extra Features

Both the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 will run on the latest available version of Android, i.e. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. As for cameras, despite the Samsung Galaxy S3's rumored 12-megapixel camera, the HTC One X, with its 8-megapixel primary shooter, will likely win this round thanks to the new image processing technology HTC integrated in the One series. HTC also wins at MP3 playback quality, as the HTC One X also comes equipped with Beats Audio integration.
