How big is the chance that the "Descendants of the Sun" movie is now being worked out?
Will the famous loveteam of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo make a comeback to reprise their roles?
According to Asia Times, the highly-successful South Korean military drama TV series is set to get a movie remake with Chinese director Zhang Yi-bai supervising the production.
However, there has been no report yet as to who will star in the movie adaptation.
In the meantime, Asia One dished out that upcoming director of the "Descendants of the Sun" movie, Zhang Yi-bai, is already feeling the pressure with the job that he is expected to do soon.
"I feel big pressure since the TV drama series Descendants Of The Sun is already a big hit with very charming male and female protagonists," Zhang said. "I think the production of a film should not only take advantage of the powerful popularity of the television series but also see some improvement."
It can be noted that the "Descendants of the Sun" TV program has made Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo extra popular not just in South Korea, but also in other parts of the world. Even months after it ended, it still is a trending topic online.
Talking about the phenomenal success of the KBS drama, Korea Times reported that it has also been a hit project in North Korea amid the tight control over the entry of the so-called capitalist culture imposed by Pyongyang.
It was disclosed that among its audience in the country, the younger segment have been the avid fans of the love story between Army Capt. Yoo Si-jin (Song Joong Ki) and Dr. Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye Kyo) as narrated in "Descendants of the Sun."
In addition, the theme songs used in the show have reportedly been another major reason why its followers in North Korea continue to grow.
