Capcom has just won the approval of the Internet with the release of the playable demo of "Resident Evil 7." The opposite is true about its other "Resident Evil" title, shooter spin-off "Umbrella Corps," which just proved why the game publisher should just stop making spin-offs.

Capcom received a lot of flak from critics and fans alike when "Umbrella Corps" was released, getting generally unfavorable reviews on both PS4 and PC, according to review score agreggator Metacritic.

While "Resident Evil 7" was praised for going back to its horror roots, "Umbrella Corps" is just a prime example of everything that has gone wrong in the franchise.

"Umbrella Corps," just like the recent "Resident Evil" titles, felt more action-shooter oriented than horror, and has thrown away the plot completely, which made the game even worse. The game was widely criticized for its bad gameplay and most critics have bluntly called it the worst "Resident Evil" title in the franchise.

Gamespot gave the game a measly 3 out of 10, criticizing the game for its uninspired single-player mode, unappealing progress rewards and stilted cover system. The site called "Umbrella Corps" a "forgettable game dominated by bland action and half-baked mechanics."

IGN also gave "Umbrella Corps" a low score of 3.8 out of 10, slamming the title for its clunky shooting, boring modes and ridiculous movement. It is described as "a bad competitive shooter that doesn't even know how to take advantage of its few strengths," and felt like the game was "made for no one."

Capcom has released another spin-off four years ago in the form of "Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City," which was also received poorly by the fans. The title was also a terrible disappointment, getting mostly average reviews on Metacritic. It fared better than "Umbrella Corps" reviews-wise at least, but that does not change the fact that it is a terrible title all the same.

Fans have seen a glimmer of hope for the "Resident Evil" franchise in "Resident Evil 7," and hopefully Capcom realizes that. Here's to hoping that they will eventually stop making these terrible spin-offs once and for all.
