If anyone can rival Apple's highly-anticipated iPhone 5 this year, it is the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3. And based on the latest figures, Samsung's next-generation Galaxy smartphone is off to a strong start: 10 million units have already been pre-ordered.

According to Christian Post, infamous industry insider Eldar Murtazin stated on Twitter that 10 million units of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3 have already been pre-ordered by customers around the world. Murtazin reportedly mentioned the amount of pre-orders during a 'back and forth' Twitter session with another user known as Jan Ole Suhr.

Murtazin, Mobile Review's editor-in-chief, seems to have a habit of leaking information on Twitter. Last month's rumor that the Samsung Galaxy S3 would feature a body crafted from ceramic material was also Murtazin's doing, as are other rumors. He has also leaked information regarding a number of Nokia phones, including 2010's Nokia N8.

"SGS3 finalized and go to production," Murtazin posted last month on Twitter. "Preorders from operators/retailers are really highest for all Galaxy line history (finally-ceramic)." If Murtazin's statements are accurate, the Samsung Galaxy S3 should launch by the end of April.

Specs

The much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 is confirmed to have a 4.6-inch high-definition Super AMOLED display, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 319 ppi. Meanwhile, rumored specs include 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) connectivity, NFC (near-field communication), wireless charging, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Exynos quad-core 1.5GHz CPU, an 8-megapixel camera and ceramic body.

The great amount of rumors and speculations piling up in anticipation of the Samsung Galaxy S3 can only compare to Apple's next-generation iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5, expected to be unveiled in June or later in the fall. Apple's new iPhone is rumored to feature 4G LTE connectivity, high-definition Retina display, quad-core processor, NFC, Gorilla Glass 2 protection, and Siri 2.0, an improved version of Apple's popular voice assistant.

Price

The current Samsung Galaxy S2 retails for $329.99, while the iPhone 4S ranges between $199 and $399, depending on the model and the plan selected. Neither Samsung nor Apple have released pricing details for their upcoming smartphones. However, previous-model prices may serve as a clue.
