Nightdive Studios takes us back to the Citadel. The reboot of the 1994 classic "System Shock" is now on its way, and its Kickstarter page is now officially live, along with a fully playable pre-alpha demo.

According to the game's Kickstarter page, the new "System Shock" will be a "complete remake," and will be "rebuilt from the ground up" using Unity Engine.

The reboot will be a "modern take" on the original title. "It's not Citadel Station as it was, but as you remember it," Nightdive Studios said on its crowdfunding page.

Nightdive Studios has previously worked on a few AAA titles like "World of Warcraft," "Fallout: New Vegas," "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," and "Bioshock Infinite."

The original art concept by artist Robb Waters will be "re-imagined" in the new game, with enemies, weapons and locations being overhauled, but at the same time retaining their classic "System Shock" feel.

Terri Brosius will be reprising her role as the iconic antagonist SHODAN, and will be doing completely new voiceovers for the game. Brosius has also voiced Viktoria in "Thief" and "Thief II," and Ava Johnson in "Deus Ex: Invisible War."

A brand new musical score will be composed by Jonathan Peros, who is also responsible for the original soundtrack of "Retrovirus." The dev studio is also aiming to get Prague's FILMharmonic Orchestra, who recorded scores for "Civilization V" and "Thief," to record the score for the game. The orchestra is said to be a stretch goal target.

Nightdive Studios is also offering a custom "System Shock" Razer Blade for backers who will pledge a cool $5000 towards the project.

The Kickstarter is aiming to get $900,000 in crowdfunding to achieve its goal, and as of this writing, more than half of the goal is already met, with over 9,000 backers pledging their support within two days.

Fans can grab the free pre-alpha demo of "System Shock" via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store.
