As anticipation builds for the new iPhone 5, the crystal ball gazing has begun in earnest. What tantalizing new features could be on the horizon? Of all the rumors out there, these are the ones we'd love to see come to fruition.
Nano-SIM card
On face value, a nano-SIM card really doesn't sound too exciting, but this little space saver could make room for a slimmer design and a larger display.
Faster A6 processor
When it comes to technology, fast is never fast enough. The rumors are that the new iPhone 5 will be powered by an A6 processor, which means not only a faster smartphone, but also a more power-efficient one.
4G LTE next-generation mobile broadband
For some countries, including the US, 4G LTE will mean blistering speeds at your mobile fingertips. However, incompatibilities between 4G providers will mean Apple will have to provide two different versions of the iPhone 5.
Stronger Glass Screen
Early in 2012, Corning announced a new version of Gorilla Glass (Gorilla Glass 2.0), which will be used in all iPhones. The toughened glass is 20 percent thinner and stronger than previous versions. This means the new iPhone 5 could be more durable when accidentally dropped and have greater touch sensitivity.
iOS 6
Rumors abound that Apple could be announcing the next generation iOS mobile operating system (iOS 6) at a key developer event in June. This could see updates to iCloud and the Camera, for example.
4.6 Retina Display
In March, new reports surfaced that the new iPhone 5 would come equipped with a 4.6 Retina display. Other manufacturers have gradually been upsizing their screens over the past two years. These days it's not uncommon to see handsets with screen sizes of 4-inch or larger. Will Apple follow suit?
A more sleek design
The new iPhone 5 is reportedly going to be thinner, lighter and with a curved back. While the much-loved iPhones of the past were sleek enough, the time now feels right for a change.
Improved Camera
Expectations are that we will see an improved camera from Apple with a dual LED flash when the iPhone 5 arrives. The key advantages will be brighter shots and more expansive lighting for your photographs.
