Apple announced recently that there will be major revamps in their Apps Store involving new subscription terms and search ads.
The Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Apple- Phil Schiller, sat down with The Loop to discuss the big changes. According to the website, these changes will provide more options for the customers.
Schiller, together with his team, has been working countless hours just to improve the following: the App Review, the business models, and the App Discovery/ search ads.
The company ensured that the App Review will be prioritized. "We're never going to get rid of that [app review] because it matters," said Schiller. They added that they are developing new processes to cope with the public's expectations.
As for the new subscription and business models, PlayKids Co-founder & Head of global expansion Eduardo Henrique stated that improving the subscription terms is one of their top priorities as well.
"Having to subscribe to multiple apps can be very confusing for our customers," he said. "This brings value to customers and it's easier to communicate what we offer."
Basically, some of the things that a customer can do with the revamped models include upgrading, downgrading or even side grading subscriptions if options are available.
Lastly, they want the App Discovery to be convenient to their patrons and future owners by only showing new and available applications. Schiller continued saying that "we want our customers to have a reason to come to the App Store every day."
More than the "Featured" section, Apple would like to bring back the "Categories" section, wherein users can browse via apps displayed easier. More than enough, they will now allow developers to put in search ads.
The Senior VP explained that there will only be one ad displayed on the search results page. No spammy ads and other suspicious materials will be seen on the results, as also clarified.
So, when will the customer be able to spot these changes? Macrumors reported that Apple is planning to slowly include the changes in the next couple of months. Ads will be a part of a beta program next Monday while Subscriptions will be accessible to developers starting in the fall.
