Since its official launch on March 16, Apple’s new iPad 3 has already hit the 3 million units debut weekend sales figure. One of the biggest wireless carriers in the U.S., AT&T, has also claimed record sale figures for the new Apple tablet.
The announcement was made by Apple officials’ just hours after Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke to analysts in a conference call, during which he spoke about “record” sales numbers.
Reportedly, on March 16, about 750 people stood in a line in front of Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City.
Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray said that the sales number was “better than we expected”. This means that latest iPad 3 launch was a blast, despite its peppery price. Apple’s online store also stated 2-3 weeks of wait time for the pre-ordered tablets.
The new iPad is popular especially due to its high-resolution Retina Display. The tablet also flashes an improved processor and a better camera.
The latest iPad starts at a price of $499, while the 64GB model with Wi-Fi + 4G sports a price tag of $829.
