After the launch of the new iPad, there are some complaints about the overheating issue of the new iPad making round in the Internet for the past several days. Finally the tech giant has responded, via The Loop.

The users complained on MacRumors forum and Apple's Discussions, claiming that the new iPad runs hotter than its predecessor - iPad 2.

The problem was also noticed by the TechCrunch's MG Siegler."One other slight downside which I have to assume is related to either the battery or the LTE functionality is that unlike previous iPad models, the new iPad does get noticeably warm in the lower left corner after prolonged use. It's never hot, just warm. But again, I never noticed this on other models, " he complained.

Meanwhile, Engadget, which also investigated the heat issue, reported that "new iPad burns 10 degrees hotter than its predecessor."

The thermal images with an infrared camera of both the iPad 2 and new iPad obtianed by Dutch site Tweakers.net confirmed that the new iPad runs a little hotter than iPad 2, after five minutes of running GLBenchmark.

"According to the site's measurements, Cupertino's flagship slab reached 33.6 degrees centigrade (92.5 Fahrenheit), compared to 28.3 centigrade (82.9 Fahrenheit) with the iPad 2," the site said,

However, there are different voices for the heat issue. Jim Dalrymple of the Loop said, "I have been using the new iPad for almost two weeks — a week before it was released to the public and I’ve seen no heat issues. I use my iPad everyday over LTE and Wi-Fi, holding it my hand and on my lap and the device doesn’t get hot."

The heat issue seems to vary from user to user. If they use heavy GPU apps such as games, the new iPad might become warm. However, Macrumors claimed that the heat issue might not affect the functionality of the new iPad.

The tight-lipped Apple commented on the issue on Tuesday. “The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications,” Apple representative Trudy Muller, told The Loop. “If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.”
