RIM will be releasing its latest accessory for the BlackBerry PlayBook on March 23 - a brand new physical mini keyboard. The product will be available in Canada for only $99.99 at the website of retailer The Source, but after April 11, it will retail for $119.99. International customers can also order the keyboard at BlackBerry’s online store for the same price.
The latest keyboard is a Bluetooth-enabled one, which also comes with a carrying case that can be used as a stand, meaning that the keyboard can make the PlayBook tablet mimic a laptop. The keyboard is also equipped with another laptop-like feature in the form of a touchpad, which allows users to tap it twice for a right click, while a single tap will count as a “mouse” click.
The idea of the new keyboard may not come as a technological breakthrough, but it is a good addition to BlackBerry’s tablet capabilities and can even help sales of PlayBook, revive.
At only 6 millimeters thick, the mini keyboard flashed for the PlayBook is much easier to handle than a traditional notebook keyboard would be, and the battery life is also impressive. The keyboard comes with a mini-USB port, which can be used for charging it, assuring a battery life of 30 days.
