Finally, after a long wait, the BBC iPlayer app which was released by BBC for the Apple TV is finally available for download in the UK. It could be recalled earlier that when the said device was first launched, the absence of the said service was noticeable. It was available on similar devices like Fire TV, Roku, and Chromecast devices but BBC only gave a statement on October that the said app will be coming soon but didn't give a specific date. And now it is here!
The app was already making news on several social media sites and has a catalogue of programs from the last 30 days. It also includes live streaming of all BBC TV channels and personalized recommendations.
iPlayer head, Dan Taylor-Watt, said that the Christmas season is a popular time for viewers or consumers to come to BBC iPlayer as they discover and explore all the station's fantastic Christmas programs. With the launch of the long awaited player on the Apple TV, they are delighted to be able to give people another way of accessing their favourite BBC programs as well as try new programs to indulge in.
The latest BBC iPlayer that specifically adapted to the Apple TV has pretty much the same contents available and accessible like in other devices. Users can still access all the films and shows per channel with a dedicated menu serving each of the main BBC channels.
It does, however, have a bit of changes in terms of looks. The iPlayer for the said device has a general aesthetic design that Apple mostly employs for their apps. It also has a different top menu bar and home screen.
Currently, the BBC iPlayer app doesn't seem to allow "Siri", Apple's virtual assistant to pick up content from them like she does on Netflix and iTunes service.
