Another controversy regarding the latest iPad 3 release confirmed for March 7, is already giving possible headaches. It appears that the high-resolution “retina display,” which is expected to feature in Apple’s iPad 3 may pose quite a challenge to developers and users of the new iPad, alike.
Currently, there is a 20MB file size limit imposed by Apple for all 3G downloads which can spell serious trouble for applications designed to exploit the new limits set by the tablet’s high-resolution screen. In fact, some of Apple’s applications might even double in download size to support the “retina display.” It means most likely many developers will bump into that 20MB imposed limitation. And though there is some hope involving a download over Wi-Fi connection, yet, iPad 3 users who need the application and do not have a Wi-Fi network available will be the ones out of luck.
If the high-resolution display will be a staple feature in this week’s iPad 3 debut, it could make sales go down for many application developers, including for Apple. Data cited by TNW suggests that the current 20MB size limit might be increased up to 273% to allow users to download applications up to a 60MB size.
Still, Apple did not confirm anything, leaving all consumers to boil in their own juice until the official launch, which will be held on March 7. Until then, rumors about iPad 3’s 2048x1536 pixels resolution display remain only rumors.
