Porn Time, a relatively new web streaming application, has released an Android version for their program. Along with its announcement of the Android version, the company also boasts its 450,000 desktop downloads during the first week of its release. The company has had to deal with so many users that, according to them, their servers crashed twice.
Although the Android version of the program is not yet available on Google play, a lot of the fans already have access to the new app via the company's website. Porn Time copied the codes that Popcorn Time used for their Android app and made revisions to it. The company is also planning to replicate the same codes with its release of the iOS version which already has a teaser on the main page.
Porn Time works similarly to Netflix and gives you access to content without having to download it from unsecured, and often disease-ridden, torrent sites. This program and how it works has similar impacts to its predecessors with the added moral issues that come with watching porn. Since you don't have to pay for the content, adult filmmakers may suffer the same setbacks as the major Hollywood studios who rely on paying customers. So far, the company has been able to elude the media and the public's ire, but it's only been a couple of months since the company started.
Disclosures on Porn Time's website regarding the legality of downloading copyrighted material is clear marks of the past lessons learned. While it's likely that it would encounter legal and civic opposition, it's also likely that it would prosper since it basically follows the same business model as Netflix and other streaming sites. How long before online petitions and public outrage becomes media-wide? Only time will tell.
