The second-generation Moto X (2014) is all set to hit Republic Wireless as a no-contract option on Dec. 10, just in time for the holidays.
The new Moto X has stirred plenty of interest and has been quite popular since its debut, as it sports notable improvements over its predecessor while retaining the high customization options. The new model also comes with a higher price tag compared to the original Moto X, prompting many to go for carrier subsidies, but those who prefer to get the device contract-free will soon have an attractive new option.
Republic Wireless has officially announced that it will be start selling the new Moto X (2014) on Dec. 10, just in time for the holidays. The device will launch as a contract-free option at a $399 price point, which, as Republic Wireless itself points out, is roughly $100 lower compared to other no-contract options for the same handset.
On the same date, i.e. Dec. 10, an option to get a customized second-generation Moto X through Moto Maker will also go live, Republic Wireless further noted. Through the Moto Maker customization tool, interested customers will be able to design their own device by choosing various colors, accents, backing options, laser engravings, and more.
As a reminder, the new Moto X launched back in September of this year sports arguably better specs compared to its predecessor. While the original Moto X came with mid-range specs on board, the new iteration takes it up a notch and joins the high-end segment of the smartphone market.
More specifically, the second-generation Moto X sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top, and packs a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor under the hood. Other specs include Adreno 330 graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera with ring flash and dual LED, a 2-megapixel front shooter, NFC, GPS, and Bluetooth 4.0 LE, among others. When it comes to internal storage capacity, Republic Wireless will be selling the 16GB version of the new Moto X. It's worth pointing out that the new Moto X doesn't have a microSD card slot, which means that users cannot expand the storage capacity.
