HTC is hosting an event on Aug. 19 in New York City, where the company may take the wraps off the rumored HTC One (M8) for Windows.

Rumors of a Windows Phone-powered version of the company's flagship HTC One M8 have been intensifying as of late, and the purported device is expected to make its official debut soon. No official information is currently available in this regards, but HTC's upcoming event definitely boosts excitement.

According to a brief report from Re/code, HTC has sent out the invitations for its upcoming launch event on Wednesday, July 31. While the invites don't offer any specific details as to what the company plans to unveil at the event, the fact that they come amid rumors of a Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8 suggests that we may finally see the device next month.

The HTC One M8 is one of the most popular smartphones currently available on the market and it's definitely considered one of the highest-end. The handset boasts top-notch specs and features and the highly-acclaimed design HTC has received such praise for, but so far Android is the only option in terms of software.

According to leaked reports, the new version of the smartphone would retain the same specifications of the original model, at least for the most part, but ditch the Android platform in favor of Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8.1. In terms of hardware, the HTC One M8 for Windows Phone should come with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, as well as microSD card support for additional memory. The display is expected to remain the same 5-inch full HD panel, and the much-touted BoomSound speaker system is expected to be on board as well.

Microsoft has made significant efforts toward improving its platform and bringing Windows Phone on a more level playing field compared to its Android and iOS rivals, and the OS has significantly grown in popularity worldwide.

The latest Windows Phone 8.1 marks major improvements over previous versions of the OS and adds exciting new features and functionality, including the new Cortana digital assistant. With the great specs of the HTC One M8 and the neat improvements Windows Phone 8.1 brings to the table, the rumored HTC One M8 for Windows should come as a winning combo. It remains to be seen, however, whether the device will indeed become official next month. For now, all that is certain is that HTC has an event scheduled for Aug. 19 in New York City.
