AMD Vega 10 Vs NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti: AMD To Launch Its Next-Gen GPU In May Cheaper Than Rival Chipset [VIDEO]

Jan 13, 2017 06:55 AM EST

It looks like AMD's new Vega graphics cards are all set to take the GPU realm by storm. While multiple sources have not ceased hinting at a March launch for the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, recently surfaced reports surrounding its rival Vega 10 suggest AMD's latest graphics cards will arrive in May 2017.

AMD's first Vega 10 GPU that is rumored to come bearing high-end specs will be up for grabs in several SKUs for GPU enthusiasts. Aside from the Vega 10, WCCftech suggests AMD has another chip in the lineup, the Vega 11 GPU, a low-end part which is likely to be made available around the same time.

AMD could make a pitch for the dual-chip Vega 10×2 based card at the event but enthusiasts should not expect it to hit the store shelves anytime soon. The Sunnyvale-based chipmaker has a reputation of releasing its cards long after teasing it.

For instance, the company touted the Radeon Pro Duo board several months ahead of its launch at E3 2015. The card did not come to fruition until March 2016.

AMD Vega 10 Vs. Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti

Contrary to recent reports suggesting that AMD might be too late in releasing a Nvidia GTX contender, it cannot be denied that the company has what it could take to simply outperform Nvidia's most powerful GPU for gaming -- their latest Vega 10 GPU.

It's no secret that Nvidia has outmaneuvered AMD in terms of high-end GPUs for gaming. But, things are likely to change with the arrival of AMD's most powerful GPU that could outplay the current generation Nvidia GTX 1080 hands down.

AMD's lips were sealed about their upcoming GPUs for the past months and the company only recently broke silence during their CES presentation. Much to the delight of enthusiasts, AMD let viewers take a gander at this GPU that runs 4K gaming, TheCountryCaller reported.

Viewers were quick to notice a Radeon logo as part of its design on the side during the engineering sample of AMD Vega 10. An Ethernet port in an extended PCB for the company to examine and ensure that everything is running very well also caught observers' attention.

In order to keep the power requirements well under wraps, AMD kept the PCI-e connector covered. This also suggests more improvements could be in the offing. AMD Vega 10 is rumored to offer 64 NCUs coupled with TFLOPS for single precision and for double precision, the card is said to offer 750 GFLOPS.

AMD Vega 10 Price

Taking its high-performing specs into consideration, the purported GPU from AMD is expected to come bearing a steeper price tag as compared to its precursor. But it will still sell for a lower price than the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti.
