The HTC One is among the hottest Android devices currently available on the market and the unlocked version of the handset is now getting the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
HTC has already been pushing out the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to the HTC One Developer Edition and to the Taiwanese versions of the handset, and now owners of the unlocked international HTC One will receive the same treatment.
The update to the very-latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (latest launched, not the latest-announced Android 4.4 KitKat) will bring along several enhancements, including improved low-light photos, Bluetooth LE (low energy) and OpenGL ES 3.0 support, in addition to HTC Sense 5 and other tweaks.
Owners of the HTC One in the U.S. or Canada, however, seem to have a little longer to wait. The HTC One handsets in these regions were supposed to get to get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update by the end of this month, but HTC's Jason Mackenzie has now announced that the update will "slightly miss" the previously promised deadline.
"3 days left on 4.3 deadline for US/Canada HTC One. Unlocked out! Carrier skus coming, but will slightly miss 9/30. Will keep u updated..." tweeted Mackenzie on Sept. 27.
The HTC One comes with top-end specs and features and has gained high praise for its stylish, elegant metal unibody design. Despite all of its strong points, however, the older operating system is a drawback for many. The handset launched with Android 4.1 on board and received an update to Android 4.2 in some select markets, but owners are still waiting for the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to hit the smartphone.
Mackenzie promised to provide regular updates regarding the Android 4.3 rollout for the HTC One, but it seems the end-September timeframe is no longer in place. It remains unclear for not just what "slightly miss" actually means in this case. It may be just a few days or a few more weeks until HTC rolls out the update to all HTC One variants. At this point, we can only wait and see when Android 4.3 is ready to arrive on the handset.
