One of the main problems with the Microsoft Surface line of tablets, is the fact that the Touch Cover is a separate accessory, which is strange since the Surface is not only a tablet, but also a PC. Fortunately, Microsoft seems to be open to change as the company is currently giving away the Touch and Type Cover for free with every purchase of a Surface RT device.

The offer is only available to customers in the United States and Canada, however, and Microsoft said this offer is only for a month. However, it could be better off for the company if in the near future, every purchase of a Surface RT and Surface Pro comes with a free Cover. Usually, a Touch Cover would cost $120 or $130 for the limited edition, while the Type Cover cost $130. Furthermore, a Surface RT device will cost you $499 for the 32GB version, while the 64GB version will cost $599. Combine the price of a Surface RT along with a Touch Cover or Type Cover and you'll be looking at an expensive device that wants to compete with cheap Android tablets.

Microsoft has a similar offer running in Europe that should last until June 30, since the offer in United States and Canada is for a month too. What does this mean for consumers? It means you should hurry and grab your copy before the end of the month or before the Cover runs out of stock.

Furthermore, Microsoft is offering discounts on both Surface RT and Surface Pro at its TechEd conference. Attendees will have the option to purchase a Surface RT for $100 and a Surface Pro for $400, though you'll need a cool $2,195 to attend this conference.

The reason why Microsoft is offering all these deals could be due to the upcoming Build Conference starting on June 26, where the company is rumored to announce a refresh of Surface tablets running on Intel's new Haswell CPUs with 7-inch to 9-inch displays. If that is case, these new devices could possess the power to help take Windows 8 out of the woes it now faces.
