People waiting for an untethered jailbreak for Apple's mobile operating system iOS 6/6.0.2 got some relief as they got the news of the most prominent and the first jailbreaker's return. However, disappointment started setting in as so many sources declared that the Twitter profile used by the 'hacker' is not genuine.
George Francis Hotz or GeoHot is the first ever hacker to jailbreak the iPhone and allow users to enjoy applications available outside the Apple's App Store. Hotz shot to fame when he hacked Sony's PlayStation 3 and had a legal faceoff with the company.
GeoHot suddenly appeared on Twitter on Jan. 17 with a tweet "I am back with Great News."
Within hours of entering the world of micro blogging, GeoHot posted a series of tweets claiming that he is running Cydia iOS 6.0.1 on his iPhone 4S. He also posted a link of video claiming that the untethered jailbreak is running in his devices. However, the almost three-minute-long video doesn't show the iPhone 4S opening and running Cydia at all.
He also claimed of jailbreaking iPad mini and iPhone 3GS on iOS 6.0.1 but posted only pictures of the devices running Cydia, and no video was posted.
By observing the profile and the conversations on it, it seems like the profile is not at all real.
Many of his followers expressed their doubts regarding the identity of the hacker. The user of the profile looked very annoyed by the repeated questions about the identity and the foul language proves it even further.
Going further GeoHot tagged iPhoneiix, Pod2g, TyrantThe1sT, iH8sn0w, pimskeks, nitoTV, and MuscleNerd. "@TyrantThe1sT @pod2g @iPhoeniix @iH8sn0w @pimskeks @nitoTV @MuscleNerd Thank You! it's Good 2 Be Back," he posted.
Replying to the tweet, JailbreakCon team member iPhoneiix said, "@GGeoHot @tyrantthe1st @pod2g @ih8sn0w @pimskeks @nitotv @musclenerd glad to be back? You aren't even the really f***ng geo you douche."
Going by everything available on the Twitter profile of the alleged GeoHot, it looks like there is not untethered jailbreak available for iOS 6.0.1 so far, and even if it is, then it is not with the user of @GGeoHot.
Other hackers like Pod2g, Planetbeing, and MuscleNurd will have to work on the untethered jailbreak without the help of @GGeoHot.
