The blue-eyed boy of the grapevine, Samsung, is sending the rumor mills on a Galaxy S4 release date frenzy yet again. Third-party accessory maker Pelican has let on that it will be releasing its Galaxy S4 mobile case in June, fueling speculations that the release of the purported smartphone is not too far away.
The yet-to-be-announced next-gen iteration of Samsung's best-selling Galaxy S3 smartphone has been rumored for a while now, and several leaks and rumors have pointed to an April/May release date for the Galaxy S4.
The fact that Samsung released its Galaxy S2 and Galaxy s3 smartphones around the same time frame gives some credence to the speculations.
Even with no official word from the company on the device, a third-party accessory maker has gone ahead and made mobile cases for the Galaxy S4, which it intends to launch in June.
The upcoming case line called Pelican ProGear was displayed at the CES 2013 and Pelican's banner had the Galaxy S4 listed alongside the iPhone 5, iPad, and iPad mini. Tech site GottaBeMobile got a glimpse of the impending mobile case. Pelican ProGear is a brand owned by Pelican Products Inc., which designs and manufactures both high-performance case solutions and advanced portable lighting systems.
"Pelican told us that, as of right now, it plans to launch the Galaxy S4 case in June along with the rest of the cases. They even showed us a model of the case that they are planning for the upcoming device. So, at the very least, it appears that accessory makers are planning for a June launch, likely based off of last year's time frame. It's also possible that it has details about the Galaxy S4 launch though it wouldn't confirm that to us," reported GottaBeMobile.
Pelican it would seem is taking a gamble with the mobile covers for Galaxy S4. However, it is not an uncommon practice for accessory makers to make the cases beforehand.
Accessory makers often have advance access to a device details and have been known to be right on the money in the past (remember the iPhone 5 and iPad mini accessories that leaked prior to the official launch?).
Rumor has it that the Galaxy S4 will feature a 5-inch 1080p (possibly flexible) display, a 13-megapixel camera, Android Jelly Bean or Key Lime Pie, and quite possibly the Exynos 5 Octa processor which debuted at the CES.
Samsung is expected to take the wraps off the Galaxy S4 at the MWC 2013 in February, and release the smartphone in May.
