Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, said something recently that had gamers thinking and preparing for what is to come in 2013. During an investment conference call, Bobby Kotick mentioned that there will be another console coming in 2013, which he believes will be very successful.

"We can't really talk too much about next generation console plans, but I think it's safe to say you have a Wii U coming out and there will be another new console coming and we expect that they'll be very successful," said Kotick.

The big question is, which console is Kotick speaking of? Is it the Microsoft Xbox 720 or the Sony PlayStation 4. With the way things are right now, it is likely that the Microsoft offering could be the second to make it to the consumer market after Nintendo Wii U.

The Xbox 360 has been very successful, and 2012 has seen the launch of Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and the Surface RT tablet and Microsoft would want to continue this momentum in 2013.

Sony, on the other hand, may find it difficult to enter the market in 2013. The company's debt rating is terrible and its gaming division is not the way it once was in the era of the PlayStation 2. However, Sony would likely not want to find itself being last to market like it was with the PlayStation 3, which cost the company dearly (along with the pricing).

Then again, it is possible that Bobby Kotick could be talking about both consoles making a grand entrance in 2013, which would be something. Having both the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 vying for users' hearts and minds in 2013 would be a gamer's dream come true. Imagine the cheap deals to be had and all those potentially awesome games in the pipeline!

All in all, gamers can't wait to get their hands on the Xbox 720 or the PlayStation 4. However, one should not forget that the next generation begins with the Nintendo Wii U.
