The parent company of WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Facebook, Meta, is changing how it labels artificial intelligence (AI)-generated material on all of its platforms. This change is a reaction to the general discontent among users regarding the prior "Made with AI" label, which has been replaced with a "AI info" tag.
Meta's plan, which was first unveiled in April, was to promote openness by identifying artificial intelligence (AI)-generated or altered material and encouraging users to identify when they employ AI.
Earlier this year, Meta announced plans to encourage users to reveal the usage of AI technology in content creation while more visibly marking media that is artificial intelligence (AI) generated or altered. Users quickly criticized the deployment, though, once they saw that digital artworks and even slightly altered photos were being identified as AI-generated. This sparked frustration among artists and creators who asserted that their works were primarily or entirely human-made.
