Acer has announced its Aspire S7 series, the company's third line of Ultrabooks and the first to sport 10-point touchscreens. The Windows 8-powered devices will be shipped starting on Oct. 26, and prices will start from $1200.
Aspire S7 series Ultrabooks will be available in one 11-inch and two 13-inch models. All will run on Windows 8 OS and will have 1080p IPS screens and backlit keyboards.
The 11-inch netbook model measures 11.17 x 7.7 x 0.48 inches and weighs 2.29 pounds. Both the 13-inch models measure 12.73 x 8.79 x 0.47 inches and weigh 2.86 pounds. All the Ultrabooks have an all-aluminum unibody design.
"Acer took a fresh approach to the design and development of the Aspire S7, using premium construction methods and materials," said Sumit Agnihotry, VP of product marketing for Acer. He also added that the company "used cutting-edge manufacturing processes that are not typically used in the PC industry, but were necessary to achieve the high-level of engineering and design quality" it established for the Aspire S7.
All the devices include third-generation Intel Core i5-3317UB or i7-3517U processors. The netbooks also include a lithium-polymer battery that provides up to six hours of battery life. Additionally, users also have the option for a second battery which doubles the productivity to 12 hours. The netbooks also feature a "TwinAir" cooling system, which helps to extend battery life. The cooling system is made of two small high-speed fans running at 10,000 rpm; one fan pulls cold air in while the other pushes hot air out.
All models in the Aspire S7 Series feature "Theft Shield," a free software that recognizes the distance from a user's Wi-Fi signal source. If the device moves beyond ten feet of the user's Wi-Fi signal, a loud siren will emanate from the Ultrabook's speakers.
The 13.3-inch model, officially named as S7-391, tilts to a full 180 degrees.
Pricing of the the Aspire S7 Series starts at $1,199 for the 11.6-inch model and $1,399/$1649 for the 13.3-inch models. The devices will hit the shelves on Oct. 26.
