A lot of Apple Watch owners had previously requested for Spotify to officially release a companion app that they could use with their smartwatch. The music streaming company, unfortunately, hadn't really come around to developing the highly-requested app over the past few years. However, new reports are revealing that a Spotify Apple Watch app may now be in the works.

According to Engadget, Spotify is now getting serious about finally providing an Apple Watch app for its millions of customers. The report reveals that the company has hired an independent developer named Andrew Chang, who previously developed a Spotify clone for the Apple Watch called "Spotty."

Due to the lack of music streaming apps for the Apple Watch shortly after its initial release, Chang decided to create one himself. After the app had exploded in popularity, Spotify immediately took notice and even contacted Chang regarding concerns about how his app was too similar to theirs. Chang later renamed the app to "Snowy."

According to GSM Arena, Spotify once again contacted Chang, but this time it was getting in touch with the developer to offer him a job to take the lead in developing an official Spotify iOS app for the Apple Watch. After much negotiations between Spotify and the developer, Chang finally announced yesterday that he was finally on board for the project.

"I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be working closely with Spotify to bring Snowy to the Apple Watch as part of an official Spotify iOS app," Chang had mentioned in a post on Reddit.

Based on his statement, it might be safe to assume that Chang could be bringing some of the functionalities of his Snowy app into the official Spotify app. Some of the more notable features of Snowy includes Siri support, Swipe controls, watch face options, and even offline sync capabilities.
