Nintendo is set to offer a myriad of exclusive accessories for their upcoming next generation console, the Nintendo Switch. Fans will have the option to purchase these accessories separately of course, with some devices catering to specific types of players.
The Nintendo Switch's Pro Controller, for example, is geared towards serious players who want precision above all else. Some players will also likely find the packaged Joy-Con controllers a bit cramped for serious gaming. However, new reports are revealing that some gamers may yet have another reason to get their hands on the controller despite not having a Nintendo Switch console.
A YouTube user named DreWoof recently discovered that the Pro Controller will apparently work with Bluetooth-enabled PCs, Macs, and other devices. Nintendo had actually missed to reveal this fact and has never mentioned that their controller could be used for other purposes.
As demonstrated on the video uploaded by the YouTube user, via Polygon, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller can be synced to PCs via the Windows Bluetooth Setting. Simply pressing the sync button on the controller and then locating it under PC's Bluetooth setting will allow players to use the input device. The user also verified that the device can be used in different games with DirectInput and with video game emulators.
Unfortunately, the controller does not work with games using XInput, but there are software that can be installed to work around it. The controller also apparently works on Android devices, but users have reported a bit of lag when used this way.
One of the biggest drawbacks with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is that it is unable to charge itself while being connected to a Bluetooth device, even with the USB cable attached. As per IGN, the controller also lacks analog triggers, which will be an issue for some games. Nevertheless, being able to connect to different devices is still a surprising feature of the controller and will undoubtedly make it a more sensible purchase for consumers.
