Excited viewers can now mark their calendars. The premiere date for Starz's "American Gods," which is based on the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, has recently been announced.
According to the A.V. Club, the previously unannounced premiere of "American Gods" had fans scrambling for more information on the upcoming Starz show. Now everyone can relax since the series based on Neil Gaiman's book of the same name will premiere on Sunday, April 30 at 9 p.m. EST on Starz.
The announcement was made through a network press release which came with a new promotional photo for the upcoming show. The latest "American Gods" key art features Mr. Wednesday (portrayed by Ian McShane) and Shadow Moon (played by Ricky Whittle). The two seem to be taking a break from their journey and can be seen leaning against a black and "boxy vintage automobile."
In front of the parked car is a sacred white bison. The show's title can be seen on a neon sign, which is bathed "in rays of heavenly light." The show's tagline, "Believe," is also seen on the key art for "American Gods."
Starz's upcoming show will also air a day later in the U.K. on Monday, April 30, via Amazon Prime Video, per Digital Spy. "American Gods," which was created by Bryan Fuller, "follows the adventures of a recently released ex-convict named Shadow (Whittle) who, having met a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday (McShane), discovers that he knows more about Shadow's past than he could possibly imagine."
The show is based on Gaiman's bestselling novel "American Gods," which was released in 2001. The collaborative team that developed the Starz show includes Gaiman himself, Fuller, and Michael Green. The first season of "American Gods" will have ten episodes, and it will tackle issues such as religion and America's gun culture.
Aside from Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon, the first season will also feature characters such as Jesus Christ. SyFy Wire has also revealed the cast list for "American Gods" which includes, Emily Browning, Kristin Chenoweth, Yetide Badaki, Dane Cook, Bruce Langley, Cloris Leachman, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Orlando Jones, Crispin Glover, Demore Barnes, Jeremy Davies, Corbin Bernsen and Gillian Anderson.
