Recent reports have revealed that both Darren Criss ("Glee") and Edgar Ramirez ("Point Break," "Hands of Stone") have been cast in the third season American Crime Story. The actors are set to star in an installment of the series that will focus on the murder of Gianni Versace by Andrew Cunanan.
According to Variety, Darren Criss will portray Andrew Cunanan while Edgar Ramirez will play Gianni Versace. Versace "was killed on the steps of his home in Miami Beach" by the serial murderer Cunanan. In 1997, Cunanan also killed five people. He later "killed himself on a house boat, eight days after killing Versace."
"Versace: American Crime Story" will be Ramirez's "big foray" into American television. The Venezuelan actor recently took part in Jennifer Lawrence's "Joy" and Emily Blunt's "Girl on the Train." Meanwhile, Criss will once again work with Murphy. The "Glee" alum has also appeared in a few episodes of Murphy's "American Horror Story."
No other cast members have been announced for "Versace: American Crime Story." Murphy also dispelled earlier rumors that said Lady Gaga would portray Donatella Versace.
He said, "When you're going to do a show like Versace, it's a five-month commitment, it's a very big show, we're shooting it all over the world. So I just don't think with her schedule, I knew that it would never had worked. But I would love to work with her on something in the future."
"Versace: American Crime Story" will be based on the book "Vulgar Favors" written by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth. Tom Rob Smith will pen several episodes of the show and serve as executive producer with Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Brad Falchuk. Fox 21 will produce the upcoming series.
"Versace: American Crime Story" begins production next month, but the show will not air until 2018. Per ET Online, "Katrina: American Crime Story" is slated for an earlier 2018 premier. "Versace" will allegedly be aired several months later.
