"American Idol" is one of the most celebrated talent search in the world. Speculations about a possible ‘American Idol’ (AI) come back has spread like wildfire in all forms of media. Recent rumors revealed that NBC is considering bringing the hit singing competition back on the air, probably this year or the next.

"American Idol" used to be the biggest singing competition on American TV. The FOX show has dominated the ratings game throughout its run on air. This is due mainly to the various talented singers who opted to join the competition and get a shot at winning the title and the cash prize amounting to One Million Dollars.

Another dimension in the show’s repertoire of features also includes the shenanigans of its less talented contestants during the auditions, and how they have been schooled by the popular triumvirate of judges, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell—the last one being the most notable for being the meanest and most straightforward when criticizing the contestants. Since the departure of its judges (in separate occasions), the ratings of the show dwindled immensely. The final nail in the coffin was hammered in its place with the departure of Randy Jackson, the last of the original triumvirate to leave AI.

"American Idol" had FOX attempting to salvage the show by putting together a new set of judges with the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, Harry Connick, Jr. joining the roster. However, these attempts remained futile and did less to save the show’s continuously declining ratings.

However, bringing AI back to the air necessitates, according to fans, the shelving of one of two annual seasons of “The Voice,” today’s biggest reality singing competition on TV. While the AI return remains to be a rumor, fans have already begun speculating on the show’s supposed upcoming roster of judges. Debates on this matter circulated on the topic of who should return as judges of the show. While the names of the original triumvirate (i.e. Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell) have always come up, some fans are also receptive with the possible return of Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick, Jr. as judges.

To resurrect the show, NBC must be more inclined to find a real talent - a phenomenal singer. Stay true to its core and find an idol that would break the charts easily. The show needs to stop making it a reality drama show and make it a competition for which singer will slay the others best. Pretty much what they did with "The Voice" - "American Idol" needs to have a dynamic formula. Perhaps bringing two popular artists as mentors, singers having weekly battles, instead of solo performances would work. NBC can also let the judges rank the finalists and save the best performers every single week. All of these can be worth a try but NBC really needs to tinker on every detail to make sure that the new season will be a huge hit.
