Samsung has released a new video touting a forthcoming Windows 8 machine, but focused more on the "evolution of technology" than the device itself. "The time is near for the big reveal! Take a look at this video for a glimpse into our newest Windows 8-ready innovation," reads the video description. Exactly what the new product will be, however, is still a mystery.
At a first look, the video published on the Samsung Notebook YouTube channel seems to feature a notebook. Upon a closer look, however, some areas indicate we could be witnessing something more exciting.
At the 25-second mark there is something that seems like the screen bezel, but its glossy finish indicates the device could be a tablet rather than a laptop. According to CNET UK, it could be a tablet that plugs into a keyboard dock, turning into an ASUS Transformer-like hybrid.
You can see the keyboard in the video, but not much else to suggest a tablet/laptop hybrid. Arguably more intriguing, however, is something that looks like a cover to a port, but considering that this feature is included in the teaser video, there has to be something more to it. The most likely explanation is that it is the top of an S-Pen stylus. If the 21-second mark does indeed show a built-in stylus, the S Pen previously seen with the Galaxy Note and Note 10.1 could soon be working its magic on Microsoft's new Windows 8 home screen as well.
The theory is not far-fetched, as Samsung has already previewed such a device at the Computex show in Taiwan earlier this year. The Series 5 Hybrid previewed then had a detachable 11-inch tablet screen section and a keyboard dock very similar to the layout touted in the video. It also included an S Pen, as well as the Windows 8 operating system.
The new gadget's design is not finalized yet, and with every glimpse of the video there is a message reminding you of that: "Design is subject to be changed." The mysterious gadget is exciting nonetheless, and the video does bring an intriguing thrill.
Samsung is expected to unveil its new device during the IFA 2012 show next week, which kicks off on Aug. 31 and runs until Sept. 5. Samsung has also scheduled two press conferences before the show, on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30.
