The reluctant "Lord of Hell" returns to his kingdom, but not everything is fine and dandy when Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) returns to Los Angeles. What will he and Detective Chloe Decker face next?
According to TV Line, once Lucifer confirms that Chloe did get injected with a mysterious poison after facing Dr. Carlisle (Tim DeKay), he and the detective search for Burt (Joe Williamson) for an antidote. But Burt can't help them and Chloe is running out of time after showing symptoms of poisoning. Once she faints, Lucifer forces her to check into a hospital.
Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) also offers to help find the antidote, so he and Lucifer both go after Dave Maddox, who got the poison's ingredients for Dr. Carlisle. But the two are captured and Dan is roughed up, until Lucifer realizes that Dan is really in over his head. The Lord of Hell then easily escapes his restraints and returns a few punches. Maddox gives them the list of ingredients, but he also tells them that only Carlisle knows the formula for the antidote.
Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) helps Dan find one of the rare ingredients for the cure, and in the course of their search reveals that she's in L.A. to look after her "hoodlum brother" Ricardo (Albert Nicholas). Meanwhile, Charlotte Richards/ "Mum" (Tricia Helfer) suggests to Lucifer that he could simply go to hell to ask Carlisle about the antidote himself.
After conferring with several "celestial beings" and Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris), Lucifer asks Mazikeen/Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) to kill him while Dr. Martin must bring him back to life after 60 seconds. Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) must then make sure that no one removes Chloe from her hospital room because Lucifer is in a room below and must be close to his "weakness" so he can die.
While Amenadiel watches over Chloe, he and Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) talked about "bad and good people," and which group the former belongs to. As Trixie leaves, Amenadiel also fights off some security guards.
In Hell, Lucifer gets the information he needs from Carlisle, who the former leaves to suffer eternal damnation. As he is about to leave, Lucifer faces Uriel (Michael Imperioli) and the Lord of Hell is trapped in a "guilt-triggered torturous loop" as he kills his brother again and again. Maze then realizes Lucifer is trapped, and Charlotte offers to rescue him
However, once in Hell Charlotte starts thinking that she could stay there with Uriel so Lucifer drags her back to L.A. With the ingredient and the information they need, the antidote is made and given to Chloe. As the detective wakes up, she tells Lucifer that this incident has paused whatever the two have going on. Lucifer interrupts her and says that he refuses to be a pawn in his parents' feud. During the drive home, Chloe realizes that Lucifer hasn't returned her calls and messages because he has left.
Bringing the team together to save Chloe is "the right way to end" the last three episodes of "Lucifer," per the A.V. Club. While "A Good Day to Die" focused on the relationship between Lucifer and Chloe, the rest of the cast also had their time in the limelight as well.
