The CW's long-running fantasy horror TV Show Supernatural surprised fans when Cas (portrayed by Misha Collins) did something unexpected to keep the Winchester family together. Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), and Mary (Samantha Smith) were as dumbfounded as viewers were at the extreme measures the angel took to save them from a Reaper.

"First Blood," episode 9 of season 12 of Supernatural, was part "action-movie, part drama," per Den of Geek. In the show's 250th episode, the Winchester brothers are in deep, deep trouble. The episode shows the aftermath of both Sam and Dean expelling Lucifer from the President.

After 12 seasons, the Winchesters finally become "Enemies of the State." In "First Blood," Sam and Dean were either "locked in cells" or "on the run." There weren't any monsters for the season's ninth episode as the brothers themselves have become the hunted.

As it turns out, Sam and Dean manage to escape their pursuers by faking their own deaths. How they did it is explained when they were rescued by their mother Mary and the angel Castiel. According to TVLine, Cas asks the British Men of Letters for help when he and Mary exhaust their resources while trying to look for Sam and Dean.

In the ninth episode of Supernatural's twelfth season, the Winchesters are stuck on a bridge as the Impala breaks down when Billie the Reaper (played by Lisa Berry) makes an appearance. As if making deals with supernatural creatures haven't backfired on them countless times, Mary makes a deal with Billie, who is determined to take a Winchester with her. She has been keeping an eye on Sam and Dean especially since neither brother manages to stay dead.

In order to save her sons, Mary offers to take their place. However, the Winchesters are shocked when Cas kills Billie before she can accept Mary's offer. He tells them, "This sad, doomed little world, it needs you. It needs every last Winchester it can get. I will not let you die. I won't let any of you die. I won't let you sacrifice yourselves. You mean too much to me, to everything. You made a stupid deal, and I broke it. You're welcome."
