Google Pixel and Pixel XL current sport a Sony IMX378 sensor in its cameras and many claim it is the best sensor in the market today. If fresh reports are to be believed, BlackBerry's upcoming smartphone Mercury will also sport the same sensor and this has made tech enthusiasts interested doubly in the smartphone. It will very well be the X-factor in the BlackBerry Mercury device. The smartphone may have a 12MP primary camera and it could be capable of 4K video recording.

Now many are comparing the Google Pixel and Pixel XL's camera with the anticipated BlackBerry Mercury. However, simply having the best sensor is not enough to deliver Pixel-like images. BlackBerry needs to develop advanced camera software and then combine it with the Sony sensor, reports Tech Times. The BlackBerry handset is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. BlackBerry-branded device maker TCL showcased the handset at CES 2017 but hasn't revealed much on its specs and features.

The company has released three BlackBerry phones up to now namely, DTEK50, DTEK60 and the Priv. Analysts claim that the BlackBerry Mercury smartphone showcased at the CES 2017 was a pre-production handset. Hence, the final handset could be very different from the showcased one in terms of specs, features, aesthetics and design. BlackBerry will be sticking to the QWERTY in its Mercury smartphone and this will result in a shortened display, possibly only 4.5 inches.

The display is expected to have a screen resolution of 1,620 X 1,080 pixels. The BlackBerry Mercury could come with 64GB internal storage, 4GB RAM and Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. BlackBerry may also change the name from "Mercury" to something else when the final version is released. Stay tuned on Mobile & Apps for more updates on the BlackBerry Mercury smartphone.
