A new generation of Disney fans will finally get to hear a new version of a well-loved song from the animated 1991 classic "Beauty and the Beast." The new version of the theme song is being recorded for the upcoming live-action film of the same name.
According to Oh My Disney, singer Ariana Grande ("The Way," "Bang Bang") recently posted a mysterious photo on her Instagram account, and the photo in question was of Ariana at a recording studio. The photo's simple caption was a wilting rose emoji. "Beauty and the Beast" fans will remember that an enchanted rose is crucial to the plot of the movie.
Fans immediately deduced that she was recording a song for the 2017 live-action film "Beauty and the Beast" and the rumor was later confirmed, much to the delight of excited fans. In the 1991 animated Disney movie, the duet was performed by French Canadian since Celine Dion ("The Power of Love," "My Heart Will Go On," "I'm Your Angel") and R&B soul singer and songwriter Peabo Bryson ("Gimme Some Love," "Tonight I Celebrate My Love," "I Have Dreamed").
The original version of the song "Beauty and the Beast," which was written be Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame") and Howard Ashman ("Little Shop of Horrors," "Aladdin") for the animated movie, won "an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and Grammy award in 1991."
The new soundtrack for 2017's "Beauty and the Beast" will be released on March 10, 2017. It will contain three new songs written by Menken and Tim Rice and is now available for pre-order.
The Hollywood Reported added that singer and songwriter John Legend ("Glory," "All of Me," "Used to Love U") will perform the duet with Ariana Grande. "Beauty and the Beast," which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as Beauty and the Beast, respectively, is slated for a March 17 release.
