Augmented reality has become a "thing" nowadays and it can be proven with several techs that allow people to see digital images and videos in real time. Tango is a perfect example of an augmented reality platform which is developed by Google. It utilizes computer vision to allow devices, like tablets and smartphones, to identify their location without the use of any GPS and the like.
Recently, Google's Tango has been used in a way that is not only creative but also informative. The Detroit Institute of Arts has been looking for a device or some sort of technology, to make museum visits more engaging. At the Detroit Institute of Arts, museum visitors can ask for a Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the first smartphone with built-in Tango, from the reception and use it to find more details about the different artifacts inside. The device can sneak in the sarcophagi to expose bodies which have been mummified. It is also able to envision lost architecture such as the six-story Babylonian Ishtar Gate and rebuild the oldest limestone relief to its original, vibrant coloring. Furthermore, it offers guests exciting quizzes and games through an app created by GuidiGo. (via The Verge)
This step is definitely an advantage to using Tango's strengths as the platform provides a more mesmerizing take on the augmented reality experience through a phone screen. However, things like this are nothing new especially for those who have tried playing the phenomenal "Pokemon Go." There are also advanced sensors, which are not usually installed in phones, which are applied to map scale and depth.
The results through the use of this tech can create a more engaging environment -- a perfect scenario for museums. However, there are still areas of improvements which should be considered in case Google wants Tango to make its AR experience standout.
