Marvel aficionados will soon be able to watch "The Defenders" gather to protect New York City from the bad guys. In the meantime, read on to find out where you can get your first look at "The Defenders."
Entertainment Weekly recently released the first official photo of Marvel's "The Defenders," and Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/ Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand/ Iron Fist) look ready to send the villains running for cover.
Last December, Cox, Ritter, Colter, and Jones gathered on set for the first time to film their first scene as a group. As "The Defenders" meet each other, introductions are cut short when they are forced to fight off some enemies in Midland Circle.
"Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York," shared Marco Ramirez. Ramirez is the showrunner for "The Defenders," and he also produced "Daredevil's" first season.
He was also the co-showrunner for the second season of "Daredevil." "We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they're in that room together, it's kind of like, 'Oh, s-, who are you?'" continued Ramirez.
Jeph Loeb, Head of Television at Marvel, had the idea of creating a show about "Marvel's lesser-known heroes who have long populated the streets of New York." When choosing who to include in "The Defenders," Loeb went with characters who had lone wolf tendencies to give the show a different feel when compared to the Avengers, who all worked well as a group.
Meanwhile, Slash Film revealed that aside from the Netflix show "The Defenders," the group of misfits will also have their own comic. Earlier this week, Marvel Comics announced that Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage will also star in an all-new series. Brian Michael Bendis will write the comic, and he will collaborate on the project with artist David Marquez.
While featuring the same group of heroes, the TV show and comic featuring the Defenders will have different continuities. Bendis teased, "I wanted to do a sprawling, Godfather-like epic at the street level of the Marvel Universe, really putting out hooks down and creating a modern, elaborate organized crime story that is different than what has gone before, but builds on everything that has happened to these characters, as individuals or as a team, and putting them in the hardest battle for the street that anyone can imagine."
