Creator of "Prison Break" Season 5 Paul Scheuring has announced that the show will only have a total of nine episodes instead of the original ten episodes. The series revival is returning in April and he said that they had to cut back the episodes as they are short of time for ten episodes.

"I had written a long-winded road map for 10 episodes but at the end of the day, we just didn't have enough time for 10 episodes, so we conflated two of those episodes into one," Scheuring said, according to The Wrap. The actors' availability is the reason of their tight schedule for ten episodes in the upcoming "Prison Break" Season 5 where lots of stars in the series that are coming back also have new gigs that are currently in the works.

Howbeit, Scheuring assured that a lean and mean format would be an advantage for "Prison Break" and explained that a usual 22-episode season is not worth doing. He also said during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the modern era of television has changed a lot where viewers are always open to ‘limited runs and event series'.

He added that "Prison Break" Season 5 is a ‘really tight, close-ended story' although lead actor Wentworth Miller has said before that fans shouldn't lose hope for more excitements and adventures. "There's always room for more, in my mind. As long as it's a story that's worth telling, as long as it feels justified and cool and edgy." Miller told Digital Spy at San Diego Comic-Con.

"Prison Break" original cast ensemble are returning, which includes Miller and Dominic Purcell who both opened up the idea of a limited-run revival while they starred on The CW's "The Flash" - alongside Sarah Wayne Callies, Rockmond Dunbar and Robert Knepper. Miller said that he feels like it's a high school for all of them as executive producer Dawn Olmstead of Universal Cable Productions said the entire cast's comeback was the only way to have "Prison Break" Season 5.
