"Days of Our Lives" is in danger of being dropped from NBC Network and fans are doing their best to stop it. They have started a petition to keep the world's longest-running drama soap on television, and more than 27,000 people have already signed up as of today.
On June 6, it was reported that an insider with connection to the show told People that "Days of Our Lives" may only stay on air until the end of 2017. The source added that the cast members have already been informed about the show's impending cancellation. "Basically, we've heard that there won't be Days in 2018," the source said.
Now, while Soap Hub was the first to launch an online petition, in an effort to save the well-loved drama, many other groups have started the same campaign in other sites like the iPetitions. More and more people are joining the call for the show to stay but it is yet to see if NBC will listen to the plea of the audience.
Reason for Cancellation
Each year, throughout its five decade existence, NBC consistently ordered renewal of "Days of Our Lives," but it all changed this year when journalist Megyn Kelly decided to quit from Fox Network and transferred to NBC. Her move was being pinpointed as the reason for the show's possible last season this year.
Upon her transfer to the said broadcast station, it is believed that Kelly was given proposals to work on three programs. She was offered to be a news anchor on Sundays, the main figure for special coverage of political events and lastly, a talk show host for a program that will inevitably affect the position of "Days of Our Lives" in the network's schedule of programming.
Apparently, if the talk show will push through, it will replace DOOL by taking it's time slot. Fans did not like this idea and they seem to have boycotted shows she was appearing in these days. In fact, WND News reported that ratings plunge when she appeared on TV.
"Days of Our Lives" has been on air since November 1965. Last year, it celebrated its 50th anniversary with a big celebration and a book containing compilation of photos from the show's beginnings to present. Commenting on the show's secret to longevity, executive producer Ken Corday said, "We focus on our audience's needs and wants, and that has never changed."
