This October, the five-part mini-series building up to the Halo 4's launch November 6 - titled Forward Unto Dawn - will bring a complete live action take on the Halo series. Estimated to be costing Microsoft up to $10 million, it hints at the cost a Halo movie would require.

Each episode will be 15 minutes, so 90 minutes in total, with additional scenes available as part of the Limited Edition of Halo 4 which retails for $99. A preview of the mini-series will take place at San Diego Comic-Con, Thursday, June 12, according to the LA Times. It will also be available as a digital download and in physical form.

"We want this game to do all the things that a game, by virtue of being a game, can't. When you have real people, you can have real stakes and connections," producer of the live action series - Lydia Antonini - said.

The "real people" include Daniel Cudmore as Master Chief, who was in the most recent Twilight film. Directing is Stewart Handler, who created horror movie Sorority Row. "Everything from the performances to aesthetics should be tethered to a sense of authenticity and grittiness," she also said.

Halo has a history of live action takes on the franchise: Halo 3 marketed itself with the Believe trailer, Halo: ODST had a live action take on a battle between ODST marines and the Covenant, while Halo: Reach had an ad showing how the previous Noble 6 - who the players replaces in the game - died.

"It's really important to us that this is a stand-alone product that can make money on its own," Matt McCloskey, director of franchise business management at developers 343 Industries, added.

Ubisoft launched a live action take on the upcoming Assassin's Creed 3. Michael Fassbender, recently of Prometheus fame, is directing the movie. Halo tried to enter the Hollywood scene - Assassin's Creed 3 is not being produced in a Hollywood studio, according to the LA Times - but problems such as Microsoft executives demanding too much money and a culture clash between Microsoft and Hollywood meant it never happened. If the quality of previous live action movies are an indication, a Halo movie could be the first video game adaptation to be critically well received. If it ever happened.
