US based fans of Chinese brand Xiaomi won't be too pleased to hear this news: the brand new version of Mi Mix will probably not be coming the U.S. way in 2017! In essence, one should not hold their breath for a new Xiaomi phone anytime soon. The company took part in the celebrated Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 where it displayed a beautiful ceramic white and almost bezel-less version of Mi Mix. However, it is yet just another Xiaomi product that U.S. based users will not be able to get their hands on. Here is the launch of the phone at the CES:
The gleaming ivory phone has a razor thin bezel and boasts of unique call technology- features that make it a hot commodity. However, even though the Chinese company has announced this particular version of Mi Mix at the CES 2017 in Las Vegas, it is just another product that will not see a timely release in U.S.
"We don't have any specific-enough plans yet that we're comfortable talking about yet," Xiaomi's global VP, Hugo Barra, told CNET about bringing a phone to the US. "Eventually we'll make our way over here". This goes against the previous speculation that Xiaomi may be able to start the new Mi Mix phones in U.S. by 2017.
It must be noted that Xiaomi is one of the Chinese names that have entered the US smartphone and gadget market. The other competition includes Huawei, ZTE and OnePlus. However, a key difference that can be seen between these brands is that while the other companies have already started selling their new devices in the country, Xiaomi hasn't started direct sales, yet. Could this be a result of the previously reported news that Xiaomi's hold in the Chinese market, its primary one, is gradually slipping? Is it now failing on its once promised ability to sell cheap but great phones in the U.S. market, compared to competition like Apple's iPhones and Samsung's Galaxy?
To enter the U.S. market, the companies need to imbibe and develop technology that works with the local wireless networks and regulatory provisions. For this, striking a deal with the intellectual property holders of the required technology requires hard work and money. However, Xiaomi has a different take on this delay. "We don't want to go anywhere near the half-hearted efforts to launch a brand in the US just to say we're in the US," Barra said. He said the white version will be available later this year in China, but there was no word on if it will launch elsewhere. And there was no mention of when Xiaomi will officially sell phones in the US, following launches across global markets.
