The No.1 social network Facebook has added another new feature to its platform called Find friends Nearby,' reports TechCrunch. As the name suggests, the new feature will let the users locate Facebook users depending on where they are at the moment, showing off a list based on geolocation data.
Currently, the feature is available in Facebook's iOS and Android applications, and is mainly an attempt to help users who are meeting new people and want to quickly add details to Facebook.
Originally dubbed "Friendshake", the new feature is also accessible via mobile app as well as through a URL that is the abbreviation of "find friends nearby" (https://fb.com/ffn). According to reports, it is another step in Facebook, fostering its reach into mobile technology and creating services to meet new people - rather than building up more connectivity with the ones you already know.
Ryan Patterson, an engineer for Facebook has designed the app at a Hackathon event to easily exchange contact information. Rather than hunting for specific names, which can result in finding the wrong people or entering typos, Find Friends Nearby allows both users to log into and see each others details easily and quickly.
According to a Slashgear report, this feature has a bigger implications as rather than just finding people in the immediate area, Facebook could add additional features that would allow users to find people with similar interests, or maybe find friends of friends.
The best part is an app launched at SXSW that has the same functionality already, but Facebook integrating the same features would help command a much larger audience.
The users can avail the 'Find Friends Nearby' feature by going to the Facebook app on iOS and Android, and then menu > apps > find friend > other tools > Find Friends Nearby.
