Android users and "Super Mario Run" fans may not wait for long to be able to play the game. The Nintendo hit is now listed in the Google Play Store, and although you can't buy it yet, you can pre-register.

9to5Google reported the listing earlier today, and the link to the game's Google Play page confirms that "Super Mario Run" for Android is happening. However, it's not available yet at this time. Instead of an "Install" button, you'll see one that says "Pre-register." This means you'll get a notification in your Android device when the game becomes available. You can pre-register from your browser or your smartphone, as long as you're logged in to your Google account.

The game description in the Play Store page is exactly the same as it's shown on the iTunes App Store. Nintendo mentions the three games modes, World Tour, Road Rally and World Builder, which all came with the iOS version. The company has not confirmed a release date for the Android version of the game, but Nintendo did say that they plan to release it "at some point in the future."

Could Nintendo be teasing us with this vague answer? With the Google Play listing, there is hope yet that "Super Mario Run" for Android may see the light of day sooner than later. The secretive company announced the game's release for iOS to be on Dec. 15, 2016.

However, when the game was nowhere to be found by noon, eager iOS users doubted whether the annoucement was true. This caused iOS users to be on edge, tweeting their concerns.

By the end of Dec. 15, everyone heaved a sigh of relief -- and later a gasp of shock -- as iPhone and iPad players learned about the pay wall for playing all levels of Nintendo's first mobile game.

For Android users, the waiting game begins. While Nintendo is keeping mum on when "Super Mario Run" will launch on the platform, its listing on Google Play is a reassuring thing. We'll take it, Nintendo! If you're on Android and want to be notified as soon as the game goes live, register here.
