George Michael, former member of the group Wham!, just died on Christmas day according to a report by BBC, he was only 53 years old. The singer, who sky-rocketed his singing career during the 1980's, died peacefully at his home.
Michael's publicist released a statement and said that it is a great sadness to confirm that George passed away peacefully at his home during the Christmas season. He also stated that George's family ask people to respect their privacy during this emotional time.
Police stated that his death is not yet known but there were no indication of foul play.
Elton John posted a photograph of him and George Michael on his Instagram account and said that he was in deep shock about the tragedy and his heart goes out to his family.
According to TMZ, George Michael was not ill and in fact working on a movie on Showtime about his life that was set to broadcast in England by March 2017.
George Michael sold 100 million albums in his 40 year career. He started with the group WHAM! in the 1980's with top hits like "Wake Me up Before You Go-Go" and "Careless Whisper". He then went on to be successful solo artist with hits like "Faith" and "Freedom! '90."
George Michael also struggle with illegal drugs during his career. He was arrested for lewd acts in a public bathroom in 1998 and was arrested a few times in 2008. It is a very sad day for family, friends and fans of George Michael. May he rest in peace.
