Manufacturers are already putting heavy support behind Windows 8 with upcoming tablets and hybrid laptops. One such manufacture is Asustek Computer, formally known as Asus, and the company is gearing up for what could be the most important and profitable operating system launch this year. On Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Computex trade show in Taipei, Asus announced its first Windows 8 tablet device with an ARM processor and Windows 8 RT inside.

The device is called the Asus Tablet 600, and this beauty is packing a 10-inch display and a quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU, which should help make for a cheap tablet device to compete more effectively with the new Apple iPad and Android tablets. Asus didn't announce the availability of the device, but what we do know is that it will weigh 520 grams and 8.35 millimeter thick.

The Asus Tablet 600 is the first official Windows 8 RT tablet, which is an achievement for both Microsoft and ARM. Both companies have been hard at work trying to get Windows 8 to run perfectly on ARM chips, the only downside is the lack of legacy support, which might deter some Windows users from the ARM version of the OS. However, if Microsoft can convince users and the tech industry overall that Windows 8 Metro is worth using, this would put ARM and Intel on a level playing field, though you still wouldn't be able to play Planetside 2 on an ARM device.

Apart from the NVIDIA quad core Tegra 3 processor, the Asus Tablet 600 also comes equipped with an 8-megapixel camera at the back with LED flash, 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calls and whatever else, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Many potential customers will be happy to know the Asus Tablet 600 will have Office 15 pre-installed, and a group of widely used productivity applications. This is not exclusive to the Tablet 600 however. All devices with an ARM processor are expected to have Office 15 pre-installed, a huge punch in the mouth to Intel.

Already the device is looking to be a capable machine. All that needs to be done is for Asus to release it under a reasonable price or else the company might have problems selling this thing. Windows 8 won't be enough to push the Tablet 600 into the hands of consumers, the price needs to be just right.
