Samsung created a web browser for the Gear VR, allowing users to surf the internet and browse their favorite sites as they do in the physical world. A new update has just been released and currently rolling out for compatible Gear VRs, making the said illusion more vivid and allowing other types of content to be integrated on the WebVR.

According to Samsung, the latest version makes internet browsing even more captivating than before. It will be the first complete iteration of the standard WebVR 1.0. Aside from giving content creators an opportunity to present their products in different ways, it provides users with greater control over the VR experience as well.

The standard is JavaScript-based and basically gives the browser access to the device's VR features, which allows websites to sense whether a user is looking or moving. Moreover, a new feature called Change Background has been added. It allows users to change their VR space backgrounds with premium images provided by graphics company OTOY, make them experience 3D images from multiple angles. This also offers browsing in virtual reality to an extent as compared to Skybox (360-degree images of backgrounds in websites), according to AH.

Furthermore, it a new File Explorer feature has been added. It allows users to easily browse and view images and videos initially stored on their mobile devices, or even on a USB drive, with the help of a USB on-the-go support feature. The browser also includes an on-screen keyboard with 11 languages and it is capable of integrating Bluetooth devices such as mice, gamepads, and keyboards, ubergizmo reported.

With the new update and the browser's existing integration on Android, Samsung device owners can now find interesting WebVR content while browsing their phone, while plugging into their Gear VR units and checking it out themselves. The update has just rolled out and will be completely available for all compatible units within the next few weeks. Check out the video below to see how it was tested.
